General Guidelines

  1. Co-chairs will introduce the session and briefly introduce the speakers.

  2. Each speaker will spend up to 5 minutes (min) highlighting the issues that they consider to be extremely fundamental to EHS vis-à-vis the session title specifically, and CCH/DR2 in general. The title for Panel Discussion 1 is “The BIG 4–Hurricanes, Storms, Extreme Heat, and Wildfires.

  3. The speakers may approach their 5-min talk based on the findings from the work described in their abstracts (or based on other considerations). Note: copies of the abstracts are available here.

  4. Each panelist may prepare the highlights of their talk as bullet points on a single PPT slide (maximum is one slide). We will project/display the panelist’s slide while they are speaking. Please save your presentation as "[EHSCC]_[First name Last name].pptx" (e.g., "EHSCC_John Smith.pptx"). When ready, upload the slide to the BCM secured BOX folder here. Please upload the 1-page slide between October 13 - 15.

  5. After the panelists have finished highlighting their points, the co-chairs will have up to 15 minutes to ask the panelists questions (as the co-chairs see fit). This is the first session of the Q&A period; the second 15 min is for audience questions. In terms of the format of the first Q&A session, the co-chairs may…

    a. ask overarching/general questions or targeted ones,

    b. direct their questions to specific individuals or keep them open (to anyone).

  6. The second half of the Q&A period (10 min) will be used for audience comments/questions. To streamline audience questions—and maximize feedback from panel speakers—we plan to use the method below:

    a.     During the first 15 min of Q&A, while co-chairs are asking questions, we will project a short link that the audience will be asked to visit. The link will be easy to get to (e.g., “CCHDR2panelQA”).

    b.     The link will redirect the user to a webform for them to write their question. We will encourage the audience to keep questions short.

    c.     Conference staff will extract the questions from the webform and project them to the screen in real time.

    d.     The co-chairs may read out each question to the panelists.

  7. Panel Discussion 1 will end with summary statements by co-chairs.

**Please note: Co-chairs may contact panelists for planning purposes.
